Governors FAQ
How Long Does a Governor Stand For?
A Governor's term is 4 years, after which they need to be re-elected.
What are the Roles & Responsibilties of the Governors?
The Education Act 2002 requires the Governing Body to the school to promote high standards of education achievement.
The governing body has 3 roles:
- Strategic:
Setting the direction of the school. The governing body does this by agreeing aims, ethos, policies, school development plan and budget. - Critical Friend:
Fulfils this role by asking challenging questions in a supportive way, through governors visits to school, reviewing reports, and asking questions of the Head and other senior staff. - Accountability:
Being held accountable to parents, HCC Education Authority, and the local community, and in turn holding the head teacher to account for the implementation of the governing body's policies and standards of achievement.
Each Governor works as part of the team, regardless of their constituency, to make the best decisions for the benefit of the school. Summer Term (May - July)
- Evaluating SATs results

Working Parties & Sub Committees
