Year 6 Summer Term w/c 18.05.20

Weekly Update 15th May 2020

Dear All,

We hope you have seen the message from Applecroft staff. ‘Hello from Applecroft’ in the Families and Community tab. We do miss you all very much and hope you are OK.

Thank you so much for sharing all the work you have been doing and sending in photos; we have added these to a new slideshow on the class webpage. We have seen some lovely work on Ancient Egypt, Maths and writing about WGC. If you are still working on these please continue to send them in. Some of the maths work is already on the slideshow (as well as some spreadsheet work) and we will be creating a section for the WGC writing.

Work for w/c May 18th 2020

  • English: A poetry competition on the theme of the environment with a video link to a poem by Mrs Keefe.
  • Maths: Pyramid Maths linked to our Ancient Egyptian topic
  • History: A variety of activities to choose from to extend knowledge and understanding of the Ancient Egyptians
  • Science: The Human Body. If children are particularly interested in this topic they could extend their learning using other resources and research on the internet.

This week we would like you to send a piece of work or photo from the Pyramid Maths work.

There is no expectation that all the work above is completed; do what can be managed and do carry on with daily reading, maths and your own learning projects. For those looking for other ideas you can look at the competitions link, extra resources and work you did not have time for in previous weeks.

Next week is half term so we will have a limited update and suggestions for you. In the meantime, we are thinking of you all and thank you for all your support.

Stay safe.

with best wishes

The Year Six Team

Poetry Competition

This week we would like you to write a poem for the 2020 Charles Causley Trust Young Person’s Poetry Competition. This competition is open to all children aged 5-18 and there are different age categories. Visit https://causleytrust.org to find out more and have a look at the rules of entry below.

Please send the poems to us at the Y6 email address and we will organise the entry forms.

Entry is free and the prizes will include vouchers, books and other writing-related treats! Plus, the winners will be invited to a prize-giving event hosted by the patron of the trust, Patrick Gale, in October at the North Cornwall Book Festival

The theme this year is the ENVIRONMENT.

You could use your river poem as a starting point and adapt it for this competition, or start afresh and write one about another feature of the environment or what we can do to save our planet.

Below is a link to a message from Mrs Keefe.
