I am so glad that you enjoyed the bread making and art activities yesterday, we do love seeing all of your creations.
Following on with our Materials topic in science, today I would like you to take part in an indoor scavenger hunt. Search your house and see if you can find objects to match the description below. Take a photo or draw a picture of everything you find, then stick them in your book to make a collage.
Secondly, have a look at the activity sheet attached called, “Framing Nature”. The activity is a great opportunity to appreciate the beauty in your garden. We would love to see your finished framed creations.
I hope that you all have a happy weekend; the Year 5 Team will be back in touch with you on Monday.
With best wishes to you and your families,
Mrs Martin-Flaven & the Y5 Team
Art & DT Activities- Thursday 26th March
Thursday 26th March 2020
Hello Year 5,
I hope that you enjoyed the English and science tasks set yesterday. Thank you for sending in your brilliant poems, fantastic art work and super 3 word book reviews. We have really enjoyed looking at them all.
Today we have an art/science project which I think we can all get creative with. Ben Rothery is an illustrator who loves the detail to be found in wildlife. If you click on the link below you can download some amazing pictures to colour and decorate from his bestiary. A bestiary is a medieval word for a compendium of beats.
As part of our DT project on bread, have a look through your recipe books at home and online and see if you can find any bread recipes and take a look at ingredients used. Now watch a bread making video by clicking on the link below. Finally have a go at the bread worksheet which I have attached.
Below is a great list of online activities which you could take a look at over the next week, there is something for everyone.
I’ll be back in touch tomorrow,
With best wishes,

Wednesday 25th March
Hi Year 5,
I hope that you had fun with the activities set yesterday, we have really enjoyed seeing all of the photos of your creations.
Today, let’s start with an English activity. Click on the link below and listen to a story by David Walliams, then write a 3 word review in your book. Choose your words carefully to make sure that they have the most impact.
Our second activity of the day is science based, it focuses on our new topic, “Materials and their Properties”. Take a look around your home and see if you can find an example of objects made from metal, plastic, glass, wood and fabric. Write notes about the properties of each of these materials, for example is it: Natural? Flexible, Transparent?
Now watch the clip below,
Finally, the link below will take you to a site full of free, online boredom busting resources. You could take a virtual tour of a Roman fort or visit an aquarium.
I hope that you are still enjoying the 30 day drawing challenge and that you have had a go at the Lego challenge too.
Mrs Ogier, Mrs Rolph and myself are really pleased that you have had such a great start to the week. I will carry on setting activities and keeping in touch with you for the rest of this week, whilst Mrs Ogier is working in school, then we will swap over next week. Please be assured that the Year 5 team are in touch with each other every day and that we are only at the end of an email if your parents want to get in touch.
With best wishes,
Tuesday 24th March
