Ideas for Music-Making at Home

Music at Home

If children are learning from home, there are a number of ways in which they can continue their music development. The YV at Home section of the Young Voices website has lots of informative videos and tutorials that can be watched live on specific dates or visited in your own time. These have been created by some of the YV team, such as David the conductor and Andy from Urban Strides, as well as some of the special guests that have been involved in the YV concerts. You can download and print out song words so that the whole family can join in with a sing-along. There is a particularly good 'Isolation Warm Up' that can be sung in a round. You'll find it in 'Elevenses with Craig McLeish' that aired on 26th March, as well as his own version of the Mango song that we have sung in school.

Another wonderful home learning resource is the BBC's Ten Pieces at Home website. Here you will find weekly activities, each including a Ten Pieces musical film and a linked creative activity, such as writing a poem. This is a lovely way to continue the development of children's music learning and creativity whilst away from school.

You can also now visit the Sing Up at Home website where you will find a range of songs and activities to enjoy with the family. Learn the song of the week (including harmonies if you can) or find songs related to a specific topic. You can even learn some silly songs that are sure to brighten up your day!

Have fun!
