Year 6 Half Term

Weekly Update 22nd May 2020

Dear All,

Well, we have made it to half term!

The Year 6 team would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been regularly sending their work and photographs. It is so lovely to see you all having fun at home and learning new skills as well as practising your maths and English. We hope you have enjoyed learning about Ancient Egypt, too. The River Nile projects that have been sent are all super and reflect the hard work many of you have put in, so a big well done! Please continue to send us any finished work that you would like us to see.

We are not setting any new academic work for the half term week as you may well want to have a rest. However, if you are planning on entering the environment poetry competition, please can you send your poem by June 1st? We would also encourage you to enter the art competition that Miss Kenworthy has set. Details of both of these are in the Competitions and Invitations subpage of the website.

If you have some spare time this week, we would recommend that you do have another good look at all the lovely work on the Year 6 pages of the Applecroft website. There are some wonderful photographs and a few children have set some Egyptian maths challenges that you could try. One very hard-working Year 6 child has created the most amazing Maths Mystery Challenge which is great fun to do (and quite difficult). Through a series of maths questions, you have to identify a thief (a bit like our science topic in the autumn term). We would love it if some of you could attempt this and email us your answer. We can then reveal the culprit at a later date.

We have had a few entries for the skipping competition. This is another activity that you could do this week if you would still like to enter – you will need to film your attempt and send it to us and then we can forward it on to Mr Wyatt by the end of the week. Also, if you would like your nominations for the awards to be counted, then the form sent by Mrs Wake needs to be completed and returned. We have had entries from over half the year group so far and you will find a copy of the form in the General Resources and Extra’s subpage.

We do hope you enjoy a well-deserved break this week and can get out for some long walks or bike rides to make the most of this lovely weather. We miss you all very much!

With best wishes

The Year Six Team
