Year 6 Summer Term w/c 08.06.20

Weekly Update 5th June 2020

Dear All,

We have enjoyed welcoming back children from Moore this week in their bubbles and look forward to seeing children from Warhol next week. Although life in school is somewhat changed, the children have risen to the challenge very well.

We have also had a very successful week on Google Classroom, with only a few technical issues, most of which have been resolved. If you are still having difficulties, please make sure you are using Google Chrome and if you require any further assistance please email:

GSuiteSupport@applecroft.herts.sch.uk

The children have really embraced learning in this new way and they have already produced some super pieces of work. We would like to thank them for being so amazing!

The work for next week will be set in Google Classroom and will be announced on different days. Please encourage your child to log in daily at 9.00 am or soon after, in order to check for assignments and lesson details. An attendance register for the live lessons is being taken daily.

A lesson time table will be announced weekly and might differ slightly from the previous week, but generally, lessons will be as follows:

The children will be put into two maths sets to make the lessons more effective. Set 1 is Mrs Boulton’s big maths group and Set 2 is Mrs Keefe’s big maths group. The ‘Me’ sessions are just a ‘social check in’ and the children do not have to be there for the entire hour. They will often take the form of a ‘Show and Tell’ where children can tell us some news or show us something they have made, or even bring along their pet to introduce to us!

After the daily live lesson there is plenty of work for the children to complete. The following assignments have been set this week:

Maths: BODMAS, Multiplication and Division tasks

English: Handing in Practice

Science: Practice SATs paper (read through and make notes - we will go through this on Wednesday - no need to print)

History/English: Mummification Instructions

Art: Habitat Hats Mood Board

PSHCE: Google Classroom Charter

The children should also continue to develop new skills, such as baking, and take plenty of regular exercise.

A video tutorial to explain how to hand in work can be found in Google Classroom Classwork and children can watch the recordings of live lessons, if they missed them.

Those who are not going back to school will be able to access some of the work that they miss via Google Classroom (see ‘Work for children not attending school’). They can do this work on the days when their class mates are in school. If they would like to join the live lessons on these days they are also very welcome.

If you have any queries, please feel free to email us.

Best wishes

The Year Six Team
